Hearting Vintage Style

Today while getting ready with mama for brunch, I actually took a tour to her closet, and I found lots of lots of unworn outfits in wraps. Mama said they were what she wore when I was a baby, too embarrassing to wear them now.

But I think most of them are amazing! So I asked her to let me wear one of them today. With a few modern accessories, it turns out to be like this!
Belt: H&M
Necklace: Tiffany and Agatha
Blazer: G2 Black Label
Purse: Chanel
Vintage floral-print blouse: from the 80s, MADE IN HONG KONG
How often can you find a hong kong made blouse these days?
Mama was happy. What you guys think?

Looking back at looks with and without bangs over years. Bangs are lovely but they are hard to manage. What you guys think?

Winter Body Lust

This entry is again dedicated to my girl friends. <3

You know holiday season is around the corner when you find yourself randomly humming Christmas carols at work - yes, that's me! :)

Thanksgiving + Christmas + New Year
= Lots of lots of food and wine + Crazy Shopping + Even more friends and family gatherings
= Double/ triple calories and no exercise + Seasonal financial crisis + more social (i.e. more food and alcohol) + Stress

The same equation repeats every year.
Peppermint Mocha and Hazelnut Chocolate Chip Muffin - Who can resist these holiday babies??
But this winter, I found a series of nice indigenous solutions to make my Holiday sweet treats a little less sinful:)

It all started on Thanksgiving day. I've been struggling to find a zen, relaxing but not pushing body treatment place in Hong Kong; on this very special day, thanks to Winda's recommendation, I started a  treatment course at INGRID MILLET Paris, spent my Thanksgiving afternoon here with a 3 hr body treatment + deep cleansing and collagen facial.... It was simply refreshing and heavenly!

Black Friday. I was back for a firming treatment. This is absolutely addicting. And I must say, out of all facial places I have tried, Ingrid Millet so far gives me the one of fastest and most satisfying results.
Staffs are nice too. Would highly recommend to friends.
This is me right after facial. No makeup.

Saturday. While waiting for parents, I went into mom's spa place for another detoxifying massage and eye treatment. That one hurt a little... plus, there was some awkward moment too. Anyhow, I felt light and healthy again.

Saturday afternoon. right after massage and eye treatment
Got another Spa date this weekend. This one is in Repulse Bay. Will recommend if I like it.

Now Beauty sleep time. Night night, world.

J

Social Network + Turkey

I almost had the most meaning and luxurious Thanksgiving day today.

First, I had a 3hr full body treatment + facial with Winda.
Then it came highlight of the day --- watching the movie Social Network.
It totally made me miss college, with intelligent people around. Made me wonder where did they all go? sigh
Oh and that reminds me I do actually own a Harvard hoodie, got it from my Harvard grad cousin before Harvard turned me down and that was how I ended up at Berkeley... Memories.
P.S. Rowers ARE hot!!

Guys and their tight pants

Asia must be the new fashion playground.

If you take the MTR in any given weekdays, you’ll see lots of eyecatching people here in Hong Kong.

First of all, I must say Hong Kong is a rather fashionable city. You see working girls wearing the most fashion-forward dresses and walking towards the terminal like they are rocking the runway.

What really catch my eyes were the gentlemen...and their tightest pants!! Whether they’re dress pants or jeans, guys here like to wear it tight. Keyword: tight, not fit. They are tight to the point that you can see the shape of the whole lower body. Okay, I do appreciate Johnny Deep’s and David Beckham’s fit dress pants (I mean they are hot!) but not legs-hugging jeans!! That just makes me wonder “does it hurt to walk?”

Besides tight pants, you’ll also see guys wearing highlighter pink shoes, carrying whiteboard-sized designers’ bags, and wearing the darkest eyeglasses indoor. Very fashion-forward, isn’t it?

Must give props to gentlemen here, for how daring and creative they are. Now I am very curious what’s the next trend gonna be.

My Autumn Affairs

Summer is slowing leaving me. When I started to put my beloved shades and swim wears away, I found myself fall in love with accessories.

Heading to the shops now. Ciao~

Solo travel survival tips #1 - Baggage Claim

(Edited on Sept 6 Monday morning)

To all my fab jet-setter girlfriends:

I just got off the flight back to Hong Kong, finishing a two-week mini trip to Shanghai and SF. This was probably my 80th time traveling solo, if I haven't made it to a hundred yet. So here're some little tricks I've learned over years.

#1 Baggage Runway

We all know the coolest people don't wait for baggage claim coz they pack like no liquid and 2 tshirts no matter how long the trip is, like my all-time inspiration figure, Tim Ferriss.
Read his "4 hour work week." Highly recommend.
BUT you are just a typical girly girl like me, or Heather Mills, or Dita Von Teese, or millions of the rest,
you'll probably be checking in at least 2 oversized baggages every time you fly. And the best of it is often time they are MUCH heavier than you can handle.
If that's your case, choosing the right spot to wait your baggages will save your ass. Key is WHO's standing next to you.

DO:
-Stand next to (not being sexist but..) Yes, MEN ONLY!
-Sandwich yourself with two mid-aged gentlemen. Even if your left one is being a jerk, the right one can help.
-Check out the arm muscles. Only find the ones you think they are strong enough to handle your bags. Like if you stand next to those say "music major" on their foreheads. Forget it, sisters!
-You will have better luck if you find someone wearing their college sweaters. That means they are more likely to be educated and civilized (best example: Berkeley! =P). Remember his school name if you really bump into a loser who doesn't help.
-AND of course, if you find someone who looks like he always goes to the gym (tall and well-built) -- HOT! -- then I don't think you even need to think. GO FOR IT gal! you guys can be gym buddies too ;)

AVOID:
-60+ unless you have a free hand to help
-Asian women, yea, it's not like I hate my own race, but reality is Asian women are mostly physically incapable to help.
-Immigrants. Hope you have sharp eyes to distinguish immigrant travelers by now. Not saying they aren't nice people, but I am sure their own bags of bags of 50kg luggage are already more than they can handle.
-Teenage boys. Yea, these 14-year old boys seem to be strong enough to help you get your bags off the runway, thanks to high calcium milk these days. Yet that doesn't mean they are caring enough to help. Chances are your baggages might land on your foot painfully.

Remember these tips, you will travel with a lot less hassles. Have a pleasant journey! MUAH!

J

Great Saturday Morning

still suffering from post-home trip home-sick....

Goal for today -> this is gonna be a productive Saturday.. got lots of things on my plate. Every time going back home charges me up with tons of muse ideas and inspiration. Today Imma get my butt going!!!

But first of all, im enjoying a "selfish" breakfast (quoting a british cook on this show on flight) with some Malay chocolate and the Kardashians <3

And of course, Starbucks is always my best friend in my solo reading section.

Hong Kong Slim Diet Phenomenon

Sitting at a corporate social dinner atm. It's interesting to see with a choice of halibut, steak and linguini, 80% chose the fish. In my head I was thinking if we were in the States, 100 percent would go for the steak, no doubt!

Americans are the true meateaters!!

Short trip to Shanghai. Still looking nice and bright!

Yes this is taken in the fastest growing city in China. They got blue sky and green farmland. Not bad, huh?

Guangdong Revisit

Seems like all Chinese cities look alike before any big event. That's Guangzhou before Asia Olympics in Nov... EVERYWHERE!

Luckily, hungry stomach still have no problem to get taken care of.
Steam pork cake with rice + shrimp rice roll = 16RMB. xie xie!

Office Politics... An asian rule?

On MTR today overheard a very normal looking, mid-aged lady complaining to her male friend with a 16 yr-old voice about people in her office. TYPICAL!

What's not that ordinary was the choice of words she used... Oh man, she basically called her boss a homeless, a begger, and a gold digger... Pretty mean, huh?

The whole 2-min trip was rather entertaining. Hope she's not talking about you or you.. Scary!

When Boys Meet Girls - The Turn-Off Rule

What turns a guy off?
Girls who have Ugly face, messy hair and stinky breath, I guess.

What turns a girl off?
Same+ guys who can't stop talking about himself and bring no cash to his date. (I'm sorry guys... really is an impression thing. No matter what excuse you have, doesn't matter if you are David Beckham or Brad Pitt, you are out.

Note to myself: No more British.

Hong Kong. Hong Kong LOVE

Before I start to talk about Hong Kong, I should probably write about Shanghai, where I've stayed the first half of the year.. but you know it always takes time and effort to sit down and write sthg.

So time flies, before I manage to wrap up about Shanghai, I've already been in Hong Kong for exactly a month. Last night, I went out with the girls from Berkeley, like a mini-reunion thing.. gosh, good old time, it was fun, and that inspired me to get my butt up and at least write sthg bit by bit before my memory quickly say bye to me again.

But before I start, let me show you the backdrop of my writing scene atm:

Nice breeze, good amount of sun, breath taking view, JUST missing some ice cold margarita. but im 99% set for some Sunday writing ;) That's my love for Hong Kong.

Swollen Eyes

Life at the moment is perfect. I'm handling work great, awesome group of friends, lm on crazy vibes in Hong Kong... but God has to take something away from you when your life seems to be so complete.

That's LIFE.

Action at the moment: laying on bed, putting two cans of cold beer over my eyes.

Next Stop -> Liechtenstein??!?

Liechtenstein, the country with the highest GDP per person in the world.
The fact that it merely has an estimated population of 35,000, sitting between Switzerland and Austria by the Alps is just CUTE.:)

Oh but here is a little problem... this cute little city DON'T have an airport. To get there, we gotta fly to Zurich.. gotta check if visa is needed too.

New Home in Hangzhou - I Feel Like a Homeless!

after a long day of packing, I finally moved out from my apt in Shanghai.
Bye bye, 255 Guangxi Bei Lu. Despite the fact that I had the cheapest shady landlord, and a newly-moved in half-naked gross roommate, I still had most of my great time there. Thanks for being my home sweet home in Shanghai! <3

After 4hrs of driving (+getting lost), finally got to HANGZHOU. New Home:

I managed to make it like home already :)

Beautiful Costume at Snow White

Caught the last "Snow White" show at the Lyric Theatre in the Shanghai Grand with coworkers last night.

It was my first ballet show after many many years. Dancers, music and set were all amazingly. Funny thing was I kinda forgot the story line... it really has been a while.

Worth noting was costumes are by Jean Paul Gaultier and the set by Thierry Leproust.

Entrepreneur DAY 1

As planned for the longest time, yesterday I finally make the first step to my very first business line.

As a collaboration of Daddy's woodworking tools line, this line is going to be very Jennie Ho, very me. The goal of it is to give people a sense of comfort. As much as I NEED to be liked; being an absolute people-person, I NEED to bring happiness and love to people around me, almost like my oxygen for survival. I am not necessarily asking everyone to buy my products, but I will make sure everyone LOVES them. So this line will be about things I love, people I adore, kind of lifestyle I live. It's gonna be all pure me. Stay tuned! =]

I am using my off-work time to compile things together. It's gonna be a lot of work before this little baby can be completely launched. This blog will mark my journey to that.

Day 1, I started with designing the logo and getting quotations for my website.
LogoYes and LogoMarker are fun places to start.
I actually played around on LogoMarker for free. Pretty satisfied already, hahah. But of course, I need to spend more time to look around.

A Girl Can Dream. Now I am slowly making it happen. The goal is to have my site launched on my birthday, 40 good days counting down. I am doing everything on my own from scratch. It will be a challenge but I can make it! ;)

Wasted my precious time, and all I gained was an exhausted body and guilt.

Conclusion? I need a secretary and a therapy. Life is Crazy.

Nightmare

Despite the fact that I just told Mary I wouldn't have time to update until next week and work is only 1.5 hr away (it's 7:27am now, yes, I am up working on my bed), I wanna drop down some notes really quick about these two days... coz it's definitely not pleasant at all.

I got pick-pocketed on my way to Viv's place on Sunday night. My new Lumix got stolen. The most heart broken thing was I only backed up pictures til last Wed, so everything from Wed to Thursday are gone, including pics from our ladies night (Olivia got a hot Brazilian lap dance, Kenny's bad acting at work, and French dinning on Sat).

Things got from bad to worse afterwards. Pedestrian stopped and we called the police. USELESS! Not only that they weren't helpful at all. They were just playing around. Nightmare began when they took me to police office to make record. Everyone there wasn't doing anything. More interested in me than the camera itself. Took a f-ing hour to write the worst report ever. There're two page about where I am from, how old i am, where I live, what nationality I am, blah blah, and ONE SENTENCE about the camera and NOTHING about the pickpockets. WONDERFUL!

Finally left the hell, then I received calls from the police office every 5 minutes the whole night!! asking if they can come up to my place to make a copy of my passport! told them it was not with me, and I wasn't home, then he went if everyone was home, he could go up himself!!!!!

I even got call from them at 1am and 2 missed calls yesterday!

When is this gonna end?? Shanghai is a torture.

side note: David is arriving tonight.

Blogger, i am back

Just a quick greeting before I started writing my new life in Shanghai in 2010. A couple things for quick note for what I've gone through so far:
1. Shanghai is "INTERESTING." - friends here know I almost abuse the use of this word now... very interesting, indeed.
2. I got sick the 3rd day here. SH was cold.
3. Suffered through the 1st week culture shock, parents and Timmy came visit for a weekend... moved into a lovely apartment with my lovely roommate, Franzika.. show u guys her pics later. Friends, u should come visit. It's cozy and nice. Best part is... it's only 2 blocks away from workplace! Work @ 9am, I left home @ 8:56am.
4. Lovely coworkers. Even chinese coworkers speak very good English. Impressive!
5. Frances and Brett. Frances and Brett. My best two friends in SH... esp, thanks for being the best foodie friends. Food in SH is YUM!
6. New Year Resolution in progress. Sign up for Phyiscal, the gym. Got a personal trainer, aka, coworker Kenny, the hardcore trainer. (my arms are still sore from training while writing now)
7. BIG EVENT: VPN SET UP!!!! finally back to regular internet life.
8. a few minutes later: Hard Drive died. No computer to use for 2 weeks.

there're more to share. but it's 12am now. bed time. To be continued, CIAO!

J
